Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

In classical IVF, fertilisation is allowed to occur organically by combining sperm and egg in a dish. With this approach, embryologists are able to exercise very little influence over the process and are, in essence, forced to let nature to take its course. What’s more, because traditional fertilisation also requires a significant amount of motile sperm to accomplish its goal, it results in a great deal of sperm waste.

In ICSI, a single motile sperm of sound morphology is injected directly into the egg under microscope.
