PICSI

Physiological Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (PICSI)

A primary component of the cell complex encompassing a woman’s egg is hyaluronic acid—also known as hyaluronan. This acid serves as a defensive obstacle against inferior sperm, which permits  only those sperm bearing a hyaluronan-specific receptor to enter. For this reason, a sperm’s capacity to bind with hyaluronic acid can act as a good indicator of its health and quality.

In PICSI, which is itself a modification of ICSI, a sperm bearing the hyaluronan-specific receptor is purposefully selected and injected into the egg, thereby increasing the probability of conception and reducing the chances of complications.
